Weekly guide to Hormonal Acne control (The Dreaded Menstrual Acne!)

Do you struggle to control your acne? Have you tried every product on the market and still can't find that magical cure? Maybe it is time to consider that it may not be the products, but it could in fact be your hormones. Many women have break-outs around the time of their menstrual cycle, but most women don't consider the fact that hormones could be causing the acne break-outs they suffer during the rest of the month.

You acne might be related to hormonal imbalances if the skin on your face feels more sensitive during the fourth week of the month. If your breakouts the week before your period are focused mostly on your jaw line or chin then they may be related to hormones. If you have irregular periods or an increase in facial or body hair your acne may be related to a hormone imbalance. Irregular periods and an increase in facial or body hair can be signs of a more serious hormonal imbalance and should be discussed with your doctor. Acne during pregnancy, and continued acne troubles after pregnancy can also be hormonal.

Before we talk about how you can clear up your skin by proper weekly skin care let's talk about your hormonal cycle. Your hormonal and menstrual cycle lasts between 21 and 40 days. During the week after your period your estrogen level rises. Estrogen is a hormone that helps to control your sebaceous or oil glands. Estrogen helps to keep your skin acne free by telling the oil glands how much oil to release. Around fourteen days after your cycle starts your body experiences a surge of another hormone called progesterone. Progesterone is the hormone that is responsible for an increase in oil production and secretion. Your progesterone level increases after ovulation and peaks around the same time your period begins.

Seems a little unfair doesn't it? Not only are you dealing with the cramps, bloating, and the mood swings that come along with your period, but you have to deal with an acne break out on top of it! Not to worry though because there are several things you can do daily and weekly to help reduce and maybe even prevent hormonal acne breakouts.

The first week of the month, remember this cycle begins on the first day of your period, your skin may appear dull, you may be recovering from a break out, and your skin may be more sensitive than at other times of the month. Your skin needs gentle care this week so mild cleansers are in order. Look for a facial wash with soothing ingredients like chamomile, green tea, or aloe. If you are suffering from a break-out then use a concealer to cover it up. You may want to consider using a lighter make-up that is oil free or one with acne fighting ingredients in it this week. If you have any lingering blemishes this week, put some salicylic acid or tea tree oil on them after you use your face wash.

Your skin could use a little treat this week so try using an exfoliating or moisturizing facial mask. If your skin is flaky or looking dull use an exfoliating mask to remove dead skin cells and make your skin look brighter. A moisturizing mask will provide your skin with the hydration that it needs and help with any flaking. You might want to try an exfoliating mask the day that your period starts or the day after, and then use a moisturizing mask later in the week.

During the second week of the month, the week after your period, your estrogen levels are rising and this should help you have a clear and balanced complexion. This week your main concern should be skin maintenance and the prevention of future breakouts. As part of your prevention efforts you need to keep your skin clean. Make sure that you are washing your face twice a day with the same cleansers that you used in week one.

You can also use an exfoliating cleanser once or twice this week. You should look for a product with salicylic acid, glycolic acid, or lactic acid. If you have very sensitive skin you will probably not want to use these products, but there are some milder exfoliating cleansers that work just as well. If you have the money and it is something you enjoy this would be a good week to get a professional facial.

During the third week of the month, the week of ovulation, your estrogen level is at its peak and your progesterone level is surging. All of these hormones are what cause oily skin and may cause you to have a breakout. This week your skin needs to be clean and you will probably need a little acne prevention. Wash your face twice a day with cleansers and use an alcohol free toner to deep clean your pores. If your skin feels oily at other times during the day this week wash your face with plain water. Water will wash away excess oil, but will not strip your skin like excessive use of cleansers would.

You may want to use an acne fighting mask once or twice this week. If you do have pimples do not pop them, because that will just release more oil and may cause more blemishes. You may want to buy a spot treatment with salicylic acid to use this week. You might also consider buying some of the oil absorbing wipes for your face. You can use these to blot any oily spots on your face, but it will still leave your make-up intact.

During the fourth week of the month, the week before your period, your estrogen level is at it's lowest and your progesterone level is at its highest. This may cause your skin to be sensitive, extra oily, and prone to break-outs. Continue to wash your face twice a day with a mild cleanser and with water only if you feel a need for it at other times during the day. Use your spot treatment on any pimples that you do have. You can use an acne fighting mask twice this week to keep your skin from breaking out any further.

These tips may not completely stop all of your hormonal acne, but at least you have a better idea of how to handle it. Just knowing what is going on with your hormone levels throughout the month and the effects of them on your skin puts you a step ahead. Remember to find skin care products that are effective but gentle, and try to find those that are designed with your skin type in mind.

What causes Acne

Acne cases are an extremely typical and unpleasant condition which has an effect on the skin's oil glands. The small openings in your skin (pores) connect with oil glands beneath the skin. These glands build an oily substance labeled as sebum. The pores get connected to the glands with a canal referred to as a follicle. Inside the follicles, oil carries dead skin cells towards the surface of the skin. A thin hair also develops throughout the follicle and out to the skin. When the follicle of the skin gland blocks up, the actual pimple will begin developing. Almost all pimples are discovered usually on the face, neck, back, chest and shoulders however they can flourish virtually anywhere. Acne can certainly end up being unsightly and in rare cases - long term skin damage but it is never deadly. Acne develops once the hair, sebum and skin cells clump with each other to create a plug. A bacterium grows inside the plug which causes swelling. When the plug begins breaking down, a pimple comes out.

Acne is the most typical skin disease. Both males and females of any age and ethnic background might get acne though it is normally believed to be a teenage condition as it is most commonly encountered in teenagers and grown ups. It's estimated that as much as 80% of people aged between the age of 11 and 30 will experience some type of acne breakouts. Even those in the older generation, as old as in their fifties (while less common) can experience acne. The sole reason for acne in the first place is actually not established, though people have lots of theories. To clear up one misconception, diet definitely won't result in acne, while some people think that to be true. Whether you consume plenty of fatty foods or even a lot of chocolate and crisps plays absolutely no part in acne even though it is true that eating well can only benefit your complexion, acne (in the beginning) is not a result of what you eat.

Doctors and dermatologists believe it could be as a result of the increase of hormones in puberty which may make the oil glands to clog up. More mature females may have acne due to the hormonal changes during pregnancy and those that take the oral birth control pill could also suffer from acne as a side effect. If any of your family members experienced acne as well, there is a really good possibility you might also since it is hereditary. Some medications, specifically some antibiotics can cause spots and using particularly greasy oil-based cosmetics. Acne can be treated by OTC (Over the counter) applicable face washes as well as creams or in extreme circumstances, a course of antibiotics and/or steroids over a certain period is prescribed by doctors based on the kind of acne you have got. The faster the acne is treated the lower the incidence of scarring. Your doctor can advise or refer you to a dermatologist (a skin specialist) who is able to work with you so that you receive the best acne treatment.

Treatment for Acne Craters

Acne affects a significant percentage of individuals during their adolescence, adulthood or both. Popping pimples or otherwise treating acne inappropriately can cause permanent scarring. Scars take various shapes, which align with the names "craters," "ice-picks," "boxcar scars" and "hypertrophic scars." Numerous treatment options exist. and effectiveness varies from person to person. Life will be more perfect by driving simulator and Tablet PC

Crater Cause

According to AcneNet, "family history plays a big role in whether a person develops acne scars." Individuals with severe acne also face a greater risk of scarring. Individuals who pop pimples may increase their risk of scarring, since fingers carry additional germs to the surface, increasing the chance of infection and potentially prolonging acne. Another cause of acne scars is a lack of collagen. Microdermabrasion Treatment Systems notes that "after acne pops and goes away, the surface has no collagen to rest on, so it gets depressed into a deeper layer of skin where it heals."

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure in which the top layer of skin from your face is gently removed through light abrasion. Microdermabrasion is one of the primary treatments for reducing or eliminating acne scars and can be done at a dermatologist's office or, increasingly, at a spa. When a layer of skin is removed an individual forms a new layer, which is smoother and more even. Microdermabrasion is popular because it is painless, safe, relatively inexpensive and has no post-treatment healing time, according to Microdermabrasion Treatment Systems. People with mild craters may see some improvement after just one treatment. Generally, multiple treatments are needed, and those with extensive scars will need 10 or more treatments. Extremely deep craters can be reduced. but not eliminated, with this treatment. The only side effect with microdermabrasion is a slight soreness and redness, both of which go away within hours.

Laser Resurfacing One of the newest treatment options for removing acne craters is laser resurfacing. Laser resurfacing involves the use of a laser to remove skin, so new skin can develop in its place. According to Acne.org, doctors have seen mixed results with laser use, although penetration depth can be more easily controlled than with other treatments. Laser resurfacing is expensive relative to other treatments. Post-treatment redness and swelling can last for several weeks, and individuals generally need to apply ointment during healing. Severe cases may require the application of bandages post-treatment.

Creams and Chemicals Chemical peels refer to the application of acid to the skin in order to remove the top layer and encourage growth of a new layer. Such a procedure only takes 15 minutes and is relatively inexpensive. However, even with repeated peels, the procedure will only assist those with shallow craters or other light scars. A wide variety of over-the-counter creams also claim to reduce scars. According to AcneNet, these products provide some relief to those with less significant scaring. Specifically, over-the-counter products may diminish shallow craters, partially flatten raised scars or reduce discoloration. When considering an over-the-counter cream, consumers should look for products that contain glycolic acid, retinol or vitamin C.

Safety First Certain treatments, including various over-the-counter creams and chemicals, can have different effects on different people. These can include rashes and irritation. With improper use or application, an individual can actually worsen scars. For optimum safety, individuals looking to remove acne scars should contact a dermatologist for a personalized treatment plan.

The real cause of Acne

What's The Real Cause Of Acne? Acne occurs when your body contains more toxics than your kidneys and bowels can remove. (Your kidneys and bowels are the two primary channels of elimination that your body expel toxics and waste products through.) These toxics can be the accumulation of fat stored chemicals the liver can not wash out or there may be a problem with fat digestion, fat accumulation, food allergy, or even the accumulation of hormones that your body produces. Once these toxics build up, your kidneys and bowels can get overloaded and clogged up, causing it to not function properly. When that happens some of the load will be dumped onto your liver. One of your liver's main roles is to metabolize pile up fat into usable energy for your body. This means, your liver will be doing some of your kidney's work. So now, your liver gets overloaded and it too will not work at full capacity. What happens when your bowels, kidneys, and liver gets overloaded? When that happen your body will expel toxins through your lungs and skin (your secondary channels of elimination). And this is when acne occurs. This is when your skin starts to breakout.

But whatever the toxic source is that's causing this problem, acne is a sign that your bowels and kidneys are overloaded with toxins, waste products, or hormones. It is a sign that your liver is growing weaker in its detoxification abilities (and it will continue to grow weaker if you do not do what it takes to get rid of the toxics in your body). So if you think that acne is your only problem, think again, your liver, kidneys, and bowels are getting weaker every time you breakout. For more information on how to treat acne at the root of the problem, visit: http://tinyurl.com/cnfa6f Resume : Acne occurs when your body contains more toxics than your kidneys and bowels can remove 2.Here's The One Thing You Can Start Doing Today That Can Help Prevent Acne By Houa Yang You probably don't know this yet but product wastes and toxic build up in your system is one of the main reasons why you have acne or why your skin breaks out. You see, your body has 4 channels of elimination...your bowels, kidneys, lungs, and your skin. Your bowels and kidneys are the primary channels that your body expels product wastes and toxics through.

The only time that your body expels product wastes through your lungs and skin is when your bowels and kidneys are overloaded with product wastes and toxics or when your bowels becomes sluggish. When this happens, your body will take some of the product waste and expel it through your lungs and skin (your secondary channels of elimination). Resulting in acne breakout. However, you can prevent this from happening by increasing "fiber" intake. Fiber will absorb these toxins and product waste, and help your bowels sweep them out of your system fast. So by taking enough fiber, you'll be able to speed up your bowels transit time thus, preventing your body from expelling toxics through your skin and preventing acne. So your next step is to start eating the type of foods that contains the highest amount of fiber. What types of food contains the highest amount of fiber? Fruits and non-starchy vegetables. Fruits such as apples, bananas, oranges, raspberries, and strawberries. And vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, spinach, parsnips, and potatoes. These contains the highest amount of fiber. But this does not mean that you go out and eat as much of these high fiber foods as you can. You should only consume enough so that your bowel transit time is between 12 to 18 hours. In other words, try not to consume too much fiber in day or else your transit time may be too fast causing nutrients to pass through your system without being absorbed. So if your transit time is under 12 hours, you may want to reduce the amount of fibers consume each day. However, if your transit time is more than 24 hours then you really need to consume more fiber intake or else your body will start expelling these product wastes and toxins through your skin (resulting in acne breakout). For me it's about 32 grams of fiber a day but it may be different for you, so you should really test it out for yourself and see how much grams of fiber you should be consuming each day. It's probably best to start out with 30 grams of fiber a day and go on from there. How much grams of fiber does each fruit and vegetable contain? For the fruits I've listed above it's about 3 grams each and the vegetables are about 2 grams each. However, I do recommend you consume more vegetables than fruits because fruits are high in natural sugar. While consuming more fiber alone will not stop acne it can help in preventing acne. And that's one portion of the pie in fighting acne. For more information on treating the root cause of acne, visit: http://tinyurl.com/cnfa6f resume : Preventing acne and toxict to your body is to start eating the type of foods that contains the highest amount of fiber.
